This is designed as a general observational assignment and should be fun for all parties involved. It is designed to be a learning experience for you, one that demonstrates child development in an applied setting. It is not intended to bring any undue stress to the parent(s) regarding their child.
After preparing for the case study through readings and research, schedule a time to meet with the parent(s) and the child. Print the appropriate ASQ-3 form located on Moodle to take with you to your meeting. Together with the parent(s) and child, complete the Ages and Stages Questionnaire. (Note: Only complete the assessment, not the first or last page of the ASQ-3 PDF). In addition, based on the preliminary readings and research you conducted on the child’s particular age/stage, you may want to ask additional questions or perform additional assessments with the child that would demonstrate and/or test the assertions of major developmental theories/theorists regarding that particular stage of development.

Ironically, though, even as the Victorians represented children as opposed by nature to the materialistic world of trade and profit, the figure of the child was commodified and put on display as never before. For example, the Pears Soap Company bought reproduction rights to Millais’ paintings Cherry Ripe (1879) and Bubbles (1886), and placed the images in advertisements and calendars (see ). When Cherry Ripe was featured as a color centerfold in a Christmas annual, the magazine quickly sold 500,000 copies. Kate Greenaway also took advantage of the increased public appetite for images of childhood; her watercolors of children playing appeared not just in her wildly popular books but on tea towels, wallpaper, stationary, soaps, and clothes.
Medieval childhood was a rich and varied state, since children varied from one another as much as adults did. It differed chiefly from modern western society in its mortality and in the fact that many young people started serious work at an earlier age. Most of what we associate with childhood, however, existed for children in the middle ages: upbringing at home, play, special treatment according to age, and training for adult life and work. The concentration of historians on adults in the middle ages does insufficient justice to the fact that about one third of the population was usually under the age of 14.

In summary though, cognitive development is the processes by which learning is developed by the construction of thought processes, memory, solving problems, decision-making and covers the life span from childhood to adulthood, but learning does not necessarily stop with adulthood.
Swiss Psychologist Jean Piaget, theorized that children progress through four key stages of cognitive development that change their understanding of the world.
The other article was written by the staff and research team at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford in 2012 that addresses what cognitive development is and the progress of adolescence cognitive development.
